Understanding Administrative Areas and Zones

To uniquely locate an address in a digital map database, we need to understand the concepts of administrative areas and zones and their relationship, as they are the foundation for resolving an address. Though we will focus mainly on U.S. map data in this article, the basic concepts can be applied to the NAVTEQ map data of other countries.>>

NN4D NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge® Extends into Asia-Pacific Region for 2008

Interest in location-based services in Asia continues to surge as map coverage expands throughout the region. NAVTEQ already has map coverage in countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. Fueling the growing interest of LBS in Asia is the vast number of wireless developers in the region. According to an Evans Data Corporation study in the fall of 2006, nearly 40% of the wireless developers in the world reside in the APAC region.

"The rapid expansion of map coverage in the Asia-Pacific region combined with the wealth of developers located in that region makes the regional addition of Asia-Pacific as a track in our competition a natural extension," said Marc Naddell, Vice President, Partner & Developer Programs, NAVTEQ. "Now, the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge allows the most talented developers from the Asia-Pacific region to participate directly, and benefit from the learning, exposure and rewards embedded in this global campaign."

Understanding JSR-179 Location API

JSR 179 is a specification developed under the Java Community Process. It defines a J2ME optional package that enables developers to write mobile location-based applications for resource-limited devices. The API, at a minimum, works on the J2ME Connected, Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) v1.1. It is designed to provide a compact and generic API that produces information about the device's present physical location to Java applications. This developer guide intends to provide the user with a comprehensive overview of the JSR including sample code. Click here to download.

Put NAVTEQ on your sales team

NAVTEQ Network for Developers (NN4D) Company registration enables you to post your application in our LBS Solution Catalog. Commercial opportunity holders are requesting the help of NAVTEQ in identifying applications that fit their particular needs. To support this, the NN4D Solution Catalog is referenced by NAVTEQ account managers to search and discover solutions that fit Carrier, OEM and other channel partner requests for available or pre-commercial LBS applications.

Be included in global buyer reviews. Put yourself in the NAVTEQ solutions catalog so our account teams can identify and expose your application for these commercial opportunities.

How:

  1. Register as a Company: www.nn4d.com
  2. Upon activation of your Company membership, submit a solution from the "My Company" profile page on NN4D.
  3. Provide a description, technical specifications, and screen shots. Use keywords that will include your LBS product in a NAVTEQ search of the Solutions catalog.

Be listed, get discovered, go commercial.
