Working with NAVTEQ 3D Landmarks

NAVTEQ has developed models of thousands of landmarks throughout North America and Europe. The NAVTEQ navigable map references these models such that a richer map display can be realised. In this way, the end user, particularly when on foot, can relate the map to their surroundings. Learn more about NAVTEQ 3D Landmarks and how to use them when building a location-enabled application. "Dorling Kindersley for NAVTEQ: Top 10 Travel Guide" Coming Soon to the NAVTEQ LCG Zone

NAVTEQ's portfolio of pedestrian experience products continues to grow; in fact, prototype data from our latest travel/leisure rich content product will soon be available for developers. The product - "Dorling Kindersley for NAVTEQ: Top 10 Travel Guide" - offers in-depth information for nine European cities, formatted in unique "top 10" lists for travel/leisure activities such as sightseeing, accommodation, eating, entertainment and more.

The extensive city information contained in Dorling Kindersley for NAVTEQ: Top 10 Travel Guide supports a travel-book mode (i.e., users can browse the content) and navigation mode (traditional POI routing) at all times. In fact, the product supports several distinct use-cases from which the navigation function can be initiated at any time:

· Search: assists end-users who are looking for specific information. Content is searchable by proximity, neighborhood, POI, browsing and top ten list;

· Top 10 Overviews: a list of the top 10 items in POI categories, which helps end-users who have a general idea of what they want to do, but need recommendations. For instance: Dorling Kindersley for NAVTEQ: Top 10 Travel Guide: provides lists for the "Top 10 must-sees" in a specific area, such as the 10 best restaurants and beer gardens in Grunewald (Berlin);

· Browse: focused on end-users who have a general interest in the travel guide content and are not looking for particular information.

The product includes a variety of travel images and expanded content on things to do and to see from Dorling Kindersley's expert authors and contributors, allowing developers to build additional functionality around a product.

Prototype data for the city of Barcelona, Spain on "Dorling Kindersley for NAVTEQ: Top 10 Travel Guide" will soon be available within the NAVTEQ Location Content area of the NN4D Partner Zone located here.
